Madeline Openshaw

Madeline was born and raised in Dallas, Texas in 2001 and began dancing at the age of four at the School of Contemporary Ballet Dallas. She is currently a student at Paul Mitchell the School Dallas where she is training to receive her cosmetology license. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in 2019 from the dance conservatory where she trained extensively in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, contemporary, African, and Folklorico.

After making it into the World Dance Ensemble at Booker T. in 2017, she fell in love with performing and is now an assistant to the director Keira Anna Leverton of the Choreo Records Youth Tap Company. She was a member of Choreo Records Youth Tap Ensemble for eight years and before that she was a member of the Drawbacks Youth Tap Ensemble starting in 2011.

She has danced in many shows in multiple theatres and venues throughout Dallas. Some of her favorite shows include some of The Drawbacks Youth Tap Ensemble productions and the Choreo Records Tap Company production of “Meet Me on the Roof” (2021).

There was never any doubt that Madeline’s favorite style of dance was tap and she has been given the opportunity to train with many professional instructors including Michelle Dorrance, Nicholas Young, Derrick Grant, and Sarah Reich. She has traveled many places throughout the United States attending festivals like Woodshed (2017), RIFF (2016-2018) and CHRP (2015-2018) where she was able to learn various pieces of choreography and eventually perform them for audiences. As she furthers her tap career, she hopes to continue training for as long as she can and to always remain inspired to be a good example for future generations.
